Introduction:The Furnace Brook Lab was an effort to observe the water quality in the stream. The aim of the lab was to find the healthiest environment for the species that live within the water. You would typically find the water samples and the water flow rates, the general stream characteristics stream width, calculating the area and velocity, the levels of dissolved oxygen and the ph levels.
Research Question:Within the two locations find the healthiest environment for the species that live in the stream.
Hypothesis: The location with the best water quality and a neutral ph level will be the environment for the species

The stream

The two locations
|
Procedure: 1. Get in two groups of five so you can have a sampler one and two, a recorder, timer and a person to do the calculations
2. find a location on the stream
3. measure about 40 feet down the stream and mark it
4. measure the width of the stream
5. measure the depth of the stream six time
6. take the temperature of the water
7. have one person stand at the beginning of the 40 feet
with the golf ball and another person stand at the end of the 40 feet, you will need to have a person time from when the first person drop the ball until it reaches the second person (repeat this step 5 times)
8.measure the dissolved oxygen
9.measure the ph level
10.repeat steps 1-9 for location 2

Discussion: There weren’t as many species found in the water even though water was fairly clean. The water appeared clear and there wasn’t a smell. The texture of the algae was cobbles and the stream description was rocks.
Evaluation: The lab could of had some mess ups in the exact amount, also the lab could of been done one day.
Conclusion: My hypothesis was wrong because both location had clean water and there wasn’t many species on either locations
